Around Lansing This Weekend: Cars, Food Trucks, Hula Hoops & More

Get out of the house and have some fun this weekend! Here's what's going on around Lansing for the weekend of May 18-21, 2023.

SPiN Hula Hoop Convention 2023 is underway now through Sunday (5/21), and "is designed to connect experienced professionals from around the globe and eager to grow hula hoopers in the community to motivate, inspire, educate and mentor each other." It's happening at the Eaton County Fairgrounds in Charlotte.

St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids hosts its annual Ox Roast Festival and Carnival this Thursday (5/18) through Sunday (5/21). It's four days of live bands, fantastic food, carnival rides and lots more fun.

If you're up for a drive to Novi, you can take in the Motor City Comic Con at the Suburban Collection Showplace this Friday (5/19) through Sunday (5/21). Dozens of comic creator guests will be on hand, along with a slew of celebrity guests including Christopher Lloyd, Carl Weathers, Tony Danza, Mick Foley, Clark Gregg and many more.

The East Lansing Art Festival prides itself on being Mid-Michigan's first major art show of the summer season. Works from nearly 200 juried artists from around the country will be on display, and there'll be fun interactive activities for kids and families alike. It's all happening along Albert Avenue in downtown East Lansing this Saturday (5/20) and Sunday (5/21).

Michigan State University's 59th Annual Spring Arts & Crafts Show takes place Saturday (5/20) and Sunday (5/21) at the MSU Union. Hundreds of local artists will be on hand with an endless variety of unique products.

The Mid-Michigan Treatment Courts Foundation (MMTCF) is hosting its second annual Walk for Wellness on Saturday (5/20) at Lansing's Granger Meadows Park beginning at 9am. The event is meant to help share awareness about the positive impact of MMTCF court programs and to raise funds to help treatment court participants facing financial hardships that challenge their recovery.

MSU's College of Human Medicine hosts its annual Teddy Bear Picnic at Munn Intramural Field on Saturday (5/20) from 11am to 2pm. Organizers promise a "fun-filled afternoon of arts & crafts, games, giveaways & prizes, Zeke the Wonderdog, firetruck exploring, therapy dogs, and much more!" Kids are even invited to bring their favorite stuffed animal for a wellness check-up!

Hungry? Head to Howell on Saturday (5/20) for a Food Truck Rally in the Howell Summit Gardens/Howell Depot Museum parking lot. Over a dozen different food trucks will be on-site, offering a wide variety of cuisines to sample.

Classic car enthusiasts unite! High Caliber Karting & Entertainment at Meridian Mall in Okemos hosts Greater Lansing Cars-N-Coffee on Saturday (5/20) beginning at noon.

The Lansing Lugnuts host Military Appreciation Night on Saturday (5/20). Our men and women in service are the honorees for the evening, and LAFCU sponsors fireworks after the game. First pitch is at 7:05pm.

This Saturday evening (5/20) beginning at 8pm, it's the 6th Annual Dark Art Bizarre and World Goth Day Celebration at The Avenue Café on East Michigan Avenue in Lansing. There'll be live music, performance art, tarot and rune readings, vendors and much more.
