Both Bath and Body Works and The Body Shop host high-profile sales this month, although The Body Shop doesn't call its promotion a "semiannual sale." Nomenclature aside, this is a great time to stock up on lotions, bath gels, hand soaps, candles and other such items. Keep an eye out for limited-edition or discontinued scents that retailers trot out during their big sales.

"The shelf life of body lotions and other items like that is a long time, so it's not a bad idea to stock up when it goes on sale," Godwin says.

The holiday for family patriarchs falls on June 18 this year, and you can expect deals on all the traditional Father's Day gifts, like tools, grilling accessories and men's clothing. If you can wait until after the holiday itself, retailers may mark the prices on such items even lower if they haven't sold.

Online retailers like Amazon may also offer curated gift lists with products for dads, with additional discounts on those goods highlighted on the list. One caveat: Hold off on purchasing Amazon-branded tech like smart speakers or e-readers, since those may see better discounts if Amazon hosts its annual Prime Day next month.
