Slimbridge pupils get into the swing at hula hoop workshops

Jun 14, 2023

Teachers Keziah Benbow (Kindred Spirits Arts) and Elly Clibbens (Ellavation Circus) have been visiting schools in the area and running hoop workshops this week.

Children at Slimbridge Primary School got the chance to hula hoop on Friday, part of the Great Hula Hoop project, culminating with hula hoop competitions and fun at Dursley Market Place (1pm) and Cam Jubilee Playing Fields (3.30pm) on Saturday, Coronation Day.

Headteacher James Taylor said: ‘It was a really original way to celebrate the Coronation, the children learnt a new skill and had fun whilst they did it!’ The children also celebrated with an afternoon tea."

The whole amazing idea for the project was dreamt up by Abi Nicol, coordinated by Deb Brooks (both Cam and Dursley Creatives), supported by GL11 and funded by Active Gloucestershire.

Free hoop skills classes will start for primary school age children after half term at the newly renovated Quarry Chapel in Cam (email [email protected] for more information).
