Trainer Jay Maryniak shows how simple slider movements can burn your abs.
One of the biggest challenges of a routine filled with nothing but home workouts is keeping up the intensity using the limited resources at our disposal. Just skipping certain moves it can be way too tempting when you're training in a home gym and don't have access to the right machine or equpment. But you don't need to spend a load of money ordering expensive equipment, you just have to get a little bit creative.
Trainer Jay T. Maryniak just posted a series of video clips to Instagram demonstrating how he used something you might have laying around the basement or garage that can easily replicate core-burning slider movements: a skateboard. Normally, you'd use sliders, or maybe even the seat of a rowing machine in a gym for these exercises. But Maryniak dusted off his deck to prove that you can get the same type of work done on your driveway or street, too—while showing off some of his skateboarding tricks at the same time.
"If you have a board then definitely get after these movements," Maryniak wrote in the post's caption. "Your core will be torched after these!"
The skateboard exercises include variations on a sliding plank walkout and sliding pulldown, which challenge your core's control and stability as well as strength.
The number one focus for these movements should be to squeeze your core and glutes to keep yourself stable and your spine neutral as you progress.
You don't necessarily need to be Tony Hawk in order to try Maryniak's workout for yourself. While a skateboard is one handy way of executing these moves, you can use pretty much whatever you've got on hand to fashion your own set of sliders. For instance, a pair of paper plates or towels on a wooden floor will work just as well as a board to create that same sliding motion.
